Learning for Life Programme

Learning for Life Programmes - The ALTOS Experience @ BHPS

The school has successfully established Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in Sports and Outdoor Education programme, The ALTOS Experience @ BHPS. ALTOS refer to Active Learning Through Outdoors and Sports. The school hopes to develop students’ character and their acquisition of 21st Century competencies and core values by providing the experiential learning opportunities through the various sports and the outdoor activities such as Track and Field, Tchoukball, Floorball, hiking and adventure camping.

The school leverages existing school programmes for Science, PAL, PE, Values in Action and the CCAs to enhance the students’ learning from both the curriculum and co-curriculum programmes.  Three distinct activity areas in outdoor settings namely Sports, Outdoor Education and Environment Appreciation are identified to provide for broad based development in sporting, physical and outdoor activities.  At each level, the learning of skills, knowledge and understanding is progressive where students are provided opportunities to revisit, make connections with and extend their learning. The learning of skills, 21st Century Competencies and Social and Emotional learning (SEL) competencies will be spiral in nature with the learning objectives clearly spelt out at each level over a span of 6 years.

Apart from providing learning experiences to cater to all students, the programme also provides for development of talents among the students with aptitude in the sports and outdoor activities as well as those who showed greater interest in environmental activities.  The students identified will be dovetailed to the various CCAs where they will receive training by professional coaches.  Those talented in sports will be provided with intensive training in the areas of skill training, fitness, conditioning and given greater   exposure to compete in games with other schools or clubs.
