From Primary 1 to Primary 3, the focus is on mastery of fundamental movement skills in all students mainly through Gymnastics, Sports and Games, and Dance. Once these foundations are laid, the upper primary students will then advance to focus on learning more complex movement skills and sports concepts, and apply them in more recognizable activities and various types of games.
Through our curriculum, every student will be educated in the participation of regular physical activities in school and during leisure time in order to help them establish a lifelong healthy lifestyle. The curriculum provides opportunities to acquire school values, social emotional competencies and 21st century competencies for character building. Our physical education programmes also create opportunities for students to display positive personal and social behaviours like fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship, as well as, demonstrate safe practices during activities with respect to themselves, others and the environment.
There are seven learning areas in the physical education syllabus to facilitate the organising of the learning experiences in the school. The seven learning areas are: Athletics (from Primary 3)
- Physical Health and Fitness
- Swimming (Primary 3)
The Primary 1 and 2 students participate in PAL lessons within school hours which comprise of modules of activities in 4 areas: Sports and Games, Outdoor Education, Performing Arts (Music and Dance) and Visual Arts. PAL activities also provide varied avenues for students to develop social and emotional competencies. The activities are experiential in nature and incorporate elements of fun and enjoyment.
Therefore, participating in PAL activities will enable students to balance the acquisition of knowledge with skills and values, providing them with a well-rounded education.
